This modern, elegant space flows seamlessly from the indoors out, creating one large, cohesive entertaining area
Wanting to transform the courtyard of their stylish Cammeray terrace into an outdoor entertaining area, the homeowners contacted A Total Concept Landscape Architects. A detailed brief of needs and wants was basis to create for them a design both as practical as it is beautiful.
We saw the potential to create a strong statement, a private oasis, integrating the pool area and garden space with the rest of the house and rear lane accessible garage. We maximised the relationship between the indoor living and dining area and the outdoor courtyard, offering the owners a more cohesive integration of the interior and exterior and a more efficient use of the limited space.
The kitchen and living areas now open directly to entertaining area. Combining the two spaces, inside and out had the effect of doubling the available space for entertaining which together with a retractable roof allowing for use in all seasons.
The narrow width of the property required consideration to be able to meet the clients brief of pool, usable lawn and screen planting. This was mostly resolved by keeping the gardens narrow to maximise the space available for pool and lawn.
Screening to neighbours’ properties is provided by the use of Trachelospermum jasminioides (star jasmine) growing on stainless steel framing wire over masonry boundary walls. Gardenia florida (florists gardenia) within the pool area and to the house end of the pool is provided to add detail and interest.
The narrow lap pool is a visual feature daytime and night with lighting and incorporates a terminating feature water wall which hides the functional garage behind. The clear frameless glass pool fence helps to visually integrate all areas by not creating a visual barrier.
The lawn area is approximately 2.5 metres wide and extends over 16 metres in length. No good for football but great for cricket!
